And another disappointment in humanity.

It appears we can kiss any hopes of anything else original from the fuckers at Square-Enix anymore.

Apparently the company president has announced that Square-Enix will no longer develop anything that isn't made to appeal to the 'mainstream' audience and gave the employees an ultimatum - 'mainstream' ideas only or they risk losing their job.

Supposedly the background for this royally dumb decision was losses on the financial side. Gee, have they wondered if it may be BECAUSE the fanbase is tired of playing the same Final Fantasy games all over again? Maybe it's BECAUSE they keep recycling and remaking everything? Maybe it's because we're TIRED OF THEIR BULLSHIT?

God Damnit. There goes any hope of a TWEWY sequel.

I smell massive company splits happening in their future. Pretty stupid move of them, too, because it's like you said - people are sick of seeing the same thing again and again. =/

Not sure what to say on the TWEWY topic, but it's actually not one of their more obscure titles. The reception for it around the world was fairly good and its been described as being "commercially successful". I'd worry more for their brand new innovations that will probably never see the light of day unless they're uber flashy and marketable... and these days that combination tends to end in sub-par games that aren't fun. >_

It may have ended up being 'commercially successful' but it's certainly not a 'mainstream' game. The ideas in it and that WTF Battle System were massively experimental. Basically Nomura had a WTF idea and Squenix went with it. And it's one of their better games to me - MAINLY because it's so unusual. Nothing like that anymore is dire news indeed.

Not mainstream, no, but it did make quite an impression. Certain titles from Enix are much less known. XD

Yeah ;-;

*hugs* Guess that just hurts the chance of it being ported to DS or being put on the Virtual Console more, eh? D:
