Some more CB thoughts, heh. ^^;;
Jun. 30th, 2003 10:42 amYet another normal day. Watched more CB (Sessions 5-8, Currently Downloading 9) and burned the first CD (Sessions 1-7).
Ballad of Fallen Angels = Good. VERY good. Rather bloody episode, though. Vicious, though he looks like Setzer's evil twin, seems to be genuinely insane, and with a penchant for killing anything that moves or doesn't move. Rather impressive Matrix-y battle scene in that Cathedral, not to mention the soundtrack. Eh, for some reason i'm not fond of Mai Yamane's version of 'Rain', though her soft-ish voice does fit the scene a bit better. Now, we all know people bleed, and that Spike has a tendency to get himself nearly killed every episode, but getting shot in the gut, having someone run a Katana through your shoulder and be pushed through a stained-glass window into a magnificently long fall is a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiit pushing it. Granted, that falling scene is pretty in its psychaedelic way (The constant close-ups on Spike's eyes and the glass shards, the flashbacks - I think there was also a flashback to the one in the beginning of episode 1 - which was rather psychaedelic on its own...). Somehow, though, the sudden cut from silence to "Green Bird" doesn't seem to quite fit in my mind. Then again, I didn't expect Road to the West in the chase scene on Asteroid Blues, either. Still, it's a VERY pretty bit of music, as I've already known. ;P
Episode 6 was OK. Nothing to write home about. Spike getting flashbacks that aren't his, though is something very strange. And don't get me started on the plotline - Peter Pan Version 2, only that this time, Peter's got a gun and he won't hesitate to use it. That transformation scene was rather... creepy, though nicely done. Once again the high amount of detail that Cowboy Bebop managed to almost shock me with in episode 1. It's so detailed you can almost feel them getting punched or strangled or whatever it is they're undergoing. That scene with Faye, Ein and the dog food though... In one word... XD.
Episode 7... It rocked, in more than one way. Space Truckers! W00t! VT's true name though rather surprised me, though it explains her bitterness towards Bounty Hunters. And is it just me, or did Decker look WAY too much like an extremely neurotic Woody Allen? Well, I'd be neurotic too if i was sitting on a cargo of explosives and had a very vindictive Faye Valentine on my tail... XD. It was a great episode, anyway, although I fail to get the joke behind painting "Albatross!" on the Swordfish II. o_O
Episode 8... Eh. Started off great (Ahh, the Nonchalant Spike, casually kicking arse), ended up being rather tiring, for me. Although I developed a bit of a liking to the character of Roco. Poor guy... (shrugs). Stella looked blazingly familiar, though. It's like I've seen someone that looked like her before... I guess it was supposed to be a rather emotional episode.
Spike, so far, is one of the strangest protagonists i've ever seen in an anime. He reminds me a lot of Guybrush Threepwood in his animated incarnation in Curse of Monkey Island (they're drawn rather similarily - tall, thin-and-long limbs, and their walking animation is rather similar - sorta like their body is swinging when they walk. Spike's face, though, is quite intereting. I mean, there's a lot of expression in it. He can for a moment look almost emotionless, and then a few minutes later plaster on a goofy grin and look almost completely different. E's rather easy going, and he seems to have a knack for getting himself almost, but not quite killed every episode.
Faye is one interesting character... Crazy woman, she is... For someone THIS knee-deep in debt, i'm surprised she has such a sense of humor. The series seems to radiate her more sensual femme-fatale-ish side, most of the time - which is obviously a cliche'd diversion from what she really is. I don't know a lot about her yet (other from the fact that she's been in cryo-sleep for a while and that she gathered an... astronomical debt, as a result), but it'll be interesting to find out.
Jet is seemingly the voice of reason in the group - unlike the cocky, hot-headed Spike and the seductive, silly Faye (Although he has his moments of sillyness and the occasional rash decision). I haven't much to say about him, only that it seems like there's a lot more to him than just the resident father-figure.
Ed... I haven't seen her yet (the episode i'm currently downloading is her debut), but from what I've heard, she's most probably going to be a character i'm going to like. I wonder why she's called Edward, though. Maybe the anime has a good excuse in a later episode.
And Ein... Well, he's one of the cutest dogs i've seen in anime yet. Apparantly, he's actually a Pembroke Welsh Corgi (there's two breeds of them, it seems - Pembroke and Cardigan), and he's a bit less... long than its real-life counterparts, but he's still cute.
And speaking of Ein...

Which Cowboy Bebop Character are You like?
Rather strange, as in another personality test, I ended up as Ed. O_o XD
One thing I noticed about the 'Bebop crew is that they all seem to have a dark and tragic past. (Well, I don't know about Ed, but Ein was created in a lab, so I guess it counts. ^_^;;) One thing I noticed is that I REALLY like Spike and Faye's ships - Swordfish II has a sleek design and a weapon that is all too familiar, and Faye's Red Tail just looks like a rogue mutant of a Starfury, from Babylon 5. And when you combine that kind of ship with Faye's attitude... Whoo. o_O
I've had more ideas for the Spirit Dragon saga... more on this in a later post, though, as it is rather detailed and involves quite a bit of dreams.
Better end this entry before IE crashes. ^^;;
