For me, it's blizzards that do that. Standing alone in the middle of a field, eyes closed, blizzard raging on around me. It drowns out all other sounds. All you can hear is the wind. The cold doesn't seem to touch me at times like that either.
To avoid sounding deep/overly melodramatic, I won't get into what it makes me feel like. There's just nothing quite like it. The only sensation that comes close is being alone in the middle of a forest, far, far away from the noises of civilization.
