Yup. It's official. Nectocaris is no longer a bizarre creature that resembles a fish body with a shrimplike head.

Case of mistaken identity.

J/K SCIENCE IT'S ACTUALLY A PROTO-CEPHALOPOD.

which makes one wonder just how exactly does one mistake this:

Nectocaris pteryx a-la 2010.

for this

Nectocaris pteryx a-la 1976.

Man, what about 40 34 years of research do to a creature. Don't get me wrong - being a huge Cephalopod fan, I find the new interpretation adorable as all fuck - but it oddly feels like a downgrade - or at least like the Burgess Shale just royally trolled Science. But then, considering Anomalocaris was considered to be four distinctively different animals before they realized the pieces fit together... Eh.

... Whatever. It's still cute.

WHAT THE FLYING FUCK.

They're not bad. It's just that I cannot even BEGIN to make any fucking sense of their anatomy and IS THAT A TAIL JET ENGINE and AN OFFICIAL REVELATION OF SOMETHING THAT WASN'T EVEN ANNOUNCED IN JAPAN - IN THE US FIRST - ?!

If this wasn't on the official site I'd call bullshit. But they're kinda nifty. So there. I like how it seems that the Black Legendary is White's and the White Legendary is Black's.

With a name like 'Zekrom' I suspect Dark/Steel. Though I wonder what the hell Reshiram is. o-o

Also dying to know what the hell their storyline is. How does one conquer the over-the-topness of Arceus?

Lucas: Alright let's see here, we've got time and space, every human emotion, every natural element and nature itself, life and death... What do we go for next?
Dawn: Only one place left to go. We go for God!
Lucas: Ah, wait, no, we've got that one too.
Cut to a board room with a banner reading "Pokemon: The Fifth Generation" and some executives trying to think of ideas.
Executive: Fffffffuck.

I've been trying to figure out the name meanings behind the new legendaries... And suddenly I realized something.

Reshiram (レシラム)- Reshiramu... and Zekrom (ゼクロム) - Zekuromu.

Probably a long shot but I'd say they contain spins on the Japanese words for White (Shiro) and Black (Kuro)... Although apparently the word 'Shiramu' means 'To turn white', and 'Kuromu' could totally be read as Chrome which kinda explains the shinyness.

Huh.

Also, THIS happened:
